Microsoft Edge Crashing on Launch

EdgeI have no idea what I did, but this week Microsoft Edge started crashing on launch on my Windows 10 Desktop. It worked for other users, but not for me. Here’s what I did to fix it:

  1. Delete the contents of the folder C:\Users\jsmith\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe, where jsmith is replaced by your user name.
  2. Hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up Task Manager.
  3. In Task Manager choose File > Run new task.
  4. Type in Powershell and make sure the Create this task with administrative privileges option is checked.
  5. In the Powershell window enter this command.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}

After running the command you should be able to launch Microsoft Edge again!

Move KiGB Saves to New Mac / KiGB Save File Location

Pokemon Red in KiGBDo you use KiGB? Did you get a new computer? Surprised to see that just copying your ROMs over wouldn’t suffice? I know, I was. It took some digging, but I eventually found where the ROM save files are stored.

/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Bannister/KiGB/Battery RAM

Quick note: Save files have to have the same name as their ROM file. Hope this helps!

Show Hidden Files in Mac OS X

While trying to recover some files from the Library folder on my Time Machine Backup tonight I discovered that the Library is hidden by default in newer version of Mac OS X. There are two ways around this: 1) Use the Cmd+Shift+G shortcut to open the location of the Library folder. 2) Show hidden files. I chose option two.

Terminal code for Mac OS X: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES killall FinderTo show hidden files in Mac OS X open the terminal and type in these two lines:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
killall Finder

This will set the show all files flag to yes and restart Finder. Sick of seeing all those hidden files? Simply repeat the process above, replacing YES with NO.

Automatically Log In Users On Windows 7

I’m currently working on rolling out a series of PCs and Raspberry Pis to display an informational PowerPoint. (I’ll post a full write up on the Raspberry Pi project when I’m done.) On Windows one of the most important aspects of this is that it has to automatically log into a Windows desktop. Here’s the easiest way to set that up on Windows 7.

  1. Go to Run box (Win + R) and type in “control userpasswords2”.

User Accounts control userpasswords2

  1. Uncheck the box that says “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.”
  2. Hit Apply.

Automatically Log On

  1. A prompt will appear asking you to enter the user name and password for the account you want to be automatically logged in. Type this information into the box and hit OK.

The next time you reboot the computer will automatically log into this account. If there are multiple accounts on the computer you can simply choose to Log Out to be returned to the user selection screen.

Hope this helps with any projects you are working on!

No New B & Crumpets This Week

No new episodes of B & Crumpets this week. Nick, Conrad, and the computer they record have all been sick. Speaking of the computer… Make sure that you backup your data kids! (Yeah… We lost two episodes of LISA: The Painful RPG. Don’t worry. We’ll re-record this weekend and be back with new videos next Tuesday.)

Pokemon Red: #9 Smells Like Cabbage

You ever smell your armpits and be like “Oh god. It smells like cabbage and death?” Misty has.

“Smells Like Cabbage” t-shirts coming eventually. Y’know, if people actually want them.

2,000 Balloons! Balloon Prank Time Lapse

This video is a time lapse of a balloon prank I did in July 2011. It was recorded over the span of about two days. The sound clips in the video are some of the more funny things that we said over the span of time that we were recording.

Over the span of four days we filled up my dad’s bedroom with over 2,000 balloons. At one point it was so full that balloons were touching the ceiling. The balloons were purchased over the span of a year from Walmart, usually in packs of 72. I always bought two or three packages at a time to avoid raising suspicion from employees.

Tips:

  • Seriously, get balloons from Walmart.
  • Have fans readily available. This helps to keep the balloons in the room.
  • Don’t use hand pumps. All they do is slow you down. Use your lungs!
  • Get lots of friends! If you have the right people it can be super fun!
  • Leave enough time to enjoy the balloons. It’s like a giant adult-sized ball pit!

Thanks to all my friends who helped with this prank!

YouTube Update

Yesterday marked the re-launch of Conrad and I’s show B & Crumpets, something that we’ve been waiting too long to do. We’re very excited about resuming this. We’ve made a lot of improvements in how we record and I think they’ll show. Although the first episode was us resuming our Pokemon Red playthrough that’s not the only game we’re going to play. I don’t think I’m spoiling anything when I tell people that we’re playing Burgertime on this Friday’s episode, and we start a playthrough of Lisa: The Painful RPG next week. If you have a game you want us to play let us know either in the comments here or on YouTube.

As it stands right now my game plan for the channel is to post something every weekday. Tentatively I’ll be uploading:

  • BashAttacks on Monday/Wednesday
  • B & Crumpets on Tuesday/Friday
  • The Quarter Life Crisis every other Thursday
  • Something random every opposite Thursday.

It’ll take some time to get up to full speed, and as such we might miss a day or two along the way.

Stay tuned for more!
